About Marin Robotics

We are a Marin County high school robotics team participating in an international program called FIRST - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST was conceived by entrepreneur Dean Kamen and MIT Professor Woody Flowers to inspire students to reach for technological greatness.

Teams of high school students are faced with the engineering challenge of building a fully functional robot, capable of completing a variety of intricate tasks under severe time constraints. During the six-week build season students gain experience in an array of fields, including economics and fund-raising, planning, design, and engineering and execution.  FIRST is the starting point for future engineers, designers, and managers.

The Marin Robotics Team is comprised of students from Redwood, Tamalpais and Sir Francis Drake High Schools. Our team was founded in 2008 and in our first year we won the prestigious Rookie All-Star award at the Sacramento Regional Competition, in large part due to our recycling program and exceptional student involvement. As “Team Recycle-It”, our goal is to develop systems to handle both conventional and electronic waste. We presented research to the judges supporting the feasibility of a competition-wide process for e-waste disposal.

In the past two years, we have focused our efforts on creating a sustainable robotics organization. We have secured an industrial space in San Rafael, CA and have equipped our own workshop for robotics construction.
